A 77-year-old man who was in the home shot at the suspect with a
shotgun about 3:19 a.m., said Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police
Department.
The man told police his house had been burglarized the day before, Thompson said.
The
intruder, William Thomas Mackey, 30, died at the scene, Thompson said. A
pickup truck he drove was found in front of the residence, but Thompson
said it was not clear if Mackey was involved in the burglary the day
before.
