Dogs are the responsibility of their owner.
The sheriff's office said they determined the shooting was justifiable.
Since they determined the dog was on the man’s property, he is protected under Virginia law.
The law states that any owner of livestock who finds a dog in the act of injuring livestock on their land shall have the right to kill such dog on sight.
