ME:Man Exerciseing Constituional Rights Harassed by Police

Handcuffing places you under arrest, no matter what they call it.

YORK, Maine — York police on Thursday afternoon handcuffed and detained a 19-year-old local man as he walked along Long Beach Avenue carrying a loaded rifle.

Police did not release the man’s name as he was not arrested, according to Sgt. Brian Curtin.

The man was released at the scene. He had no gun permit and none was needed because the rifle was not concealed, according to Curtin.

The man told police he was exercising his Second Amendment right, Curtin said.
“He was someone practicing the right to open carry,” Curtin said.
