KY: Another Sheriff asks Permit Holders to Carry Their Guns

In the weeks following the San Bernardino massacre, several Sheriff's and Police Chiefs have called for people who can legally carry arms to carry them for increased security of themselves and others.  Law officers as diverse as Detroit Police Chief James Craig of Detroit and Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County in Arizona have asked people who can legally carry firearms to carry at all times that they are out and about.

Now Sheriff Helmig of Kentucky has added his name to the growing list.  The concept is not new.  It is as old as mankind and has been recognized as effective for all of history, less the last hundred years, when "progressive" propagandists have attempted to convince everyone who they wish disarmed, that disarmed people are "safer" than people who are armed.  They may well be "safer" for those who wish to rob and kill them.  As the propagandist's stranglehold on the media cartel is loosening, voices or reason are being heard above the incessant and increasingly ineffectual calls for citizen disarmament.  From the Boone County Sheriff Facebook page:
I have reminded my current and retired Deputy Sheriffs of their responsibility to carry their firearms while off-duty.  I would also like to remind the people who have applied, been trained, and issued a license to carry a Concealed Deadly Weapon (CCDW) that they also have a responsibility to carry their firearm, which they are proficient with, for the safety of themselves and others. It is also the responsibility of everyone to refresh themselves with the laws that govern the privilege and great responsibility that accompany being a CCDW license holder.
Even the Police Chief in the extreme anti Second Amendment rights city of the District of Columbia acknowledged that on significant option for a citizen confronted with a terror attack was to fight.  This was the common sense approach for millennia.  It was only with the rise of the mass media and the ability to propagandise millions at a time that the idea of "safety in disarmament" was given any credence.  Police chiefs and Sheriffs in New York and the Sheriff of Milwaukee County David Clarke, are calling for armed citizens to be part of the national defensive system.

Police carry guns to defend themselves.  It is not surprising that they understand the utility of doing so.

The problem with this smiling jack s is that he refuses to recognize the fact that no permit or license is required to exercise a right. If I had just bought a gun and was being robbed and I had never used a gun before I would be within my rights to protect myself. and I sure as hell do not need his permission. sure practice is great but practice or not I have the right and a duty to protect myself and others.

@anonymous, This sheriff said nothing like that. What he did was to encourage those who are qualified to carry their guns. Part of the qualification is that one must have a concealed carry license. He did not make that law. His job is to enforce the law. That's just what he's doing. You may believe that you are not required to have a permit or a driver's license. Some do believe those things. I do not because I think there are better hills to die on.

What would be the point for a person to go through the process to buy, practice and get a carry license, and then not carry your weapon, except where it's against the law to carry a weapon.

To me, that just does not make sense!

Jim Have you ever heard the word entrapment. there are plenty of cops out there that would love to catch anyone they can with a fire arms and take it away from them. tell me what is enough training? should we have to pay a training officer that shoot themselves with their own gun while unloading it? I do not have a training certificate but I am a Vietnam vet. and if I didn't know how to use a gun after coming back from there some local cop is not going to be able to teach me anything new. I was actually a better shot than most before I went in to the military. I have been out of the military for more than 46 years and I have yet to shoot anyone accidentally. How many in the revolutionary militia had to get their permit to carry? they even had to bring their own guns and ammo. and yes the local safety training officer did shoot himself with his own gun In the class room.
