‘Restrictive’ gun laws no impediment to Serbian mass shooting

A shooting rampage early yesterday morning in a Serbian village near Belgrade has left 13 people dead, including six women and a child, The Guardian and other media outlets are reporting.

“Although such random shootings are rare in Serbia, weapons are readily available mostly from the war in the Balkans in the 1990s and there is a tradition of possessing firearms,” the report continues. “Initial reports said the alleged killer had a license for the handgun he used in the shootings.”

That ready availability is in spite of laws that GunPolicy.org, a website established and maintained by committed global “gun control” advocates, has categorized as “restrictive.”

Per their analysis of Serbian gun laws, the country, which does not guarantee a right to firearms ownership by law, has implemented a number of edicts that read like a “gun control” wish list, including prohibition on possession of fully automatic weapons, prohibition on “private possession of semi-automatic assault weapons … with the exception of approved hunting rifles,” licenses required to possess firearms and ammunition, a requirement to produce “a genuine reason” in order to obtain the license, a requirement for “background checks which consider criminal, medical and other various records,” required safety training, limits on the type and amount of ammunition a licensee may possess, so-called “safe storage” requirements, and severe criminal penalties for “illegal possession” of firearms.

Despite such restrictions, “in Serbia there are estimated to be 12.55 illicit firearms per 100 people.”

MI:Contrary to initial objections, easier-to-obtain weapons permits haven't led to more gun deaths

Before Michigan joined a growing number of “shall issue” states on July 1, 2001, making it easier for residents to get concealed pistol permits, opponents feared and argued it would lead to an increase in gunplay, violence and death.

It hasn’t.

“Even legislators who voted against it have told me they were wrong,” said Sen. Mike Green, who, as a state representative, sponsored the “shall issue” law that lawmakers approved in 2000. “There have not been shootouts in the streets.”

The number of firearm homicides in Michigan dropped from an annual average of 629 in the decade before the law was changed to an average of 493 per year in the decade after, state Department of Community Health records show. That’s a drop of 22 percent. The average number of firearm suicides also declined slightly from 586 per year in the decade before the law was changed to 566 per year in the decade after.

WA:Armed Grandmother of 10 Stops Home Invader

Sandra Mize confronted an intruder breaking into her north Spokane home early Wednesday morning. She fired one shot in his direction and held him at gunpoint until officers arrived. Police arrested the man and said they do not believe it was his first burglary of the night.

Sandra Mize has a motto: "You don't get do-overs."

That's why the 63-year-old grandmother of 10 keeps a gun by her bed, a canister of mace in her living room, and reinforces the doors in her north Spokane home with deadbolt locks and metal jambs before she goes to sleep every night.

Her preparedness may have saved her life just after midnight Wednesday when she held off a burglar - at one point firing a wayward shot at the intruder - until police arrived.

Mize knows gun use and property crime are hotly debated issues. The break-in occurred nine days after a car thief was shot and killed by the car's owner about a mile away from her home.

"I could let my car drive down the block," Mize said. "That doesn't bother me. Someone in my home bothers me."

Mize was asleep in her single-story home along the 2000 block of East Dalton Avenue when she heard someone bust through her back door, bending her door braces and shattering the steel-paneled door's wooden frame.

She grabbed the .22-caliber handgun she keeps by her bed and ran into her dark living room to see the silhouette of a man in her kitchen.

GA:Burglar shot by Loganville mother sentenced

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A burglar who was shot five times by a Loganville mother will spend the next 10 years in jail, but not before he pleaded for mercy.

A Walton County judge sentenced Paul Ali Slater to 20 years -- with 10 to serve -- for the home invasion back in January. The judge said the presence of the mother and her children was a factor in the sentence.

Fl:Robber shot at Burger King

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An alleged robber, accused of targeting a family inside a Burger King restaurant Friday afternoon, didn’t have it his way. Instead, he got shot.

The robbery happened inside the Burger King located at Biscayne Boulevard and 17th Street, Miami Police said. Police arrested the alleged robber and getaway driver a few blocks away from the restaurant and say they may also be involved in another day robbery that happened earlier in the day.

-------------------------cut-------------------------------

Police say it all started about 10:15 in the morning when two men stole a woman’s cell phone near 2200 Northeast 4th Avenue and drove off in a silver pickup truck. Police say Ramon Smalls was the driver of that truck and police say Smalls was the driver again during the robbery at the Burger King a few hours later. A family of three was eating lunch when police say Travis Trenard Harris went into the Burger King, pulled a gun, and stole their cell phones, but he didn’t get far before police say one of the victims pulled a his own gun and shot Harris.

Connecticut Drafts Gun Law In Secret

PHOENIX, AZ --(Ammoland.com)- Can you imagine what a tough uphill struggle the anti-gun-rights people would have if the “news” media wasn’t falling all over itself to support the anti-rights side?

Connecticut just drafted 138 pages of gun law basically in secret, enacted it before it could be read and digested by those who signed it – and certainly not by the public it pretends to legitimately control -- and in doing so ended up requiring federally licensed agents in the state to violate federal law, or flatly deny citizens their rights. Just on practical grounds this is a disaster. But that’s nothing, according to leading experts.

Legislators who draft laws in secret are behaving like the king’s men who ignited the American Revolution. They can expect no less if they continue down such a dark road, many experts say.

What did the officials choose to draft law against by this nefarious method? Only the very palladium of liberty, the very thing the Revolution warned us to guard against, a bill to reduce and actually eliminate a right for keeping and bearing arms the public already legally keeps.

Along with a list of many of the most popular makes and models in use today, the bill includes broad descriptions of arms to cover an untold number of other modern and older firearms. Are they out of their minds?

Report

Another Victim of Obama's Gun Control

Peasants are not allowed to have even *gasp* air rifles, any where near to the august presence of President Obama. Though no one could even see the pellet gunner until the police went looking in the woods, he was charged with "breach of peace", threatening, and interfering with an officer.

Joseph Stravinskas, 27, was apparently preparing to target shoot at cans off the route. Police say there is no evidence his presence was related to Obama's motorcade.

A man wielding a pellet rifle was arrested off President Obama’s motorcade route in Bloomfield, Connecticut, on Monday.

Joseph Stravinskas, 27, was apparently preparing to target shoot in a wooded area off the road Obama would use to return to Bradley International Airport after giving a speech on gun control.

An initial report erroneously said the man had pulled the weapon as Obama’s motorcade had passed.

Bloomfield Police Captain Stephen Hajdasz told the Daily News that the president was, in fact, still at the University of Hartford when the arrest took place.

Missouri Secretly Shares Entire CCW List With Feds Against State Law

Missouri State Senator Kurt Schaefer confirmed today that the Missouri Highway Department did in fact share confidential CCW lists with the federal government in violation of Missouri law.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has twice turned over the entire list of Missouri concealed weapon permit holders to federal authorities, most recently in January, Sen. Kurt Schaefer said Wednesday.

Questioning in the Senate Appropriations Committee revealed that on two occasions, in November 2011 and again in January, the patrol asked for and received the full list from the state Division of Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing. Schaefer later met in his office with Col. Ron Replogle, superintendent of the patrol.

After the meeting, he said Replogle had given him sketchy details about turning over the list, enough to raise many more questions. Testimony from Department of Revenue officials revealed that the list of 185,000 names had been put online in one instance and given to the patrol on a disc in January.

I’ve been following this story for weeks and today spoke with Sen. Schaefer on my program about this issue. Earlier he stripped the Department of Revenue of their budget, around $3.5 million.

Ted Nugent Promotes New 'Right to Carry' Campaign on Knife Rights

Guns, sure. But what about knives? Ted Nugent is coming to the rescue of knife owner rights.

The controversial rocker has teamed with gunmaker Wilson Combat to release a special edition Nugent-signature model 1911 handgun, sales of which will benefit the Knife Rights. It's just what the doctor ordered… if by doctor, you mean people who own knives and like handguns. With the recent highly-publicized knife attack on a Texas campus spurring both jokes and serious talk about "knife control," the Nugent partnership might be perfectly timed.

From the company's official statement: "Wilson Combat has donated a Ted Nugent authorized 'Signature' 1 of 2 customized 10mm CQB Elite pistol and a matching Ted Nugent Autographed Wilson Tactical Star-Light tactical folding knife for the Knife Rights 2013 Ultimate Steel Knives, Guns & More Spectacular!™ fundraiser."

No surprise that Wilson Combat also manufactures high-end titanium knives.

Knife Rights as an organization is a little bit of marketing genius, meant to fashion itself on the success that the National Rifle Assocation has had promoting gun rights.

Just as the NRA is an advocacy group that functions as a marker for the industry, Knife Rights promotes the interest of knife manufacturers while using concepts like "liberty" and "rights." By tying themselves to the fate of guns—as Knife Rights does—knife champions automatically carve out a mental space without the years of cultural development. Just take this recent statement on the Knife Rights' site: "Gun Bans Now, Knife Bans Next - The Time to Act is NOW!"

They won’t ban your single-shot .22, right?

.22 rifles are, by definition, rifled. In quite a few countries, that’s subject to a higher level of restriction than smoothbores. 22LR round is fixed ammunition, and that is also more restricted compared to loosely loaded black powder guns. The key is “fixed ammunition”, not smokeless…the old single action “peacemaker” Colts would be too modern for those who want us disarmed. Looking at German gun control efforts of the 1920s, we see “liberals” trying to disarms the hardliners of both sides. A few short years later, the hardliners got in control of the enforcement mechanism and re-defined eligibility. Nazi gun control wasn’t all that onerous for the party supporters, but all others were severely restricted. Even sticks were considered prohibited weapons by 1938. American politicians followed the Nazi lead in exempting themselves from gun control laws.

Even without the accessories, this Little Badger would make gun-banners uneasy. It folds for storage. It has a threaded muzzle. It looks martial. That it’s a single-shot .22 wouldn’t stop them from making you ineligible to own it. The licensing scheme of New York City is the best illustration — they want to control who has any weapons at all, even a single-shot .22 rifle that would be considered a child’s learning tool in the rest of America.

Lone Star Community College students: TX:We should be allowed to have guns on campus

Two students from Lone Star Community College in Cypress, Tex., appeared on Piers Morgan’s CNN show Tuesday night to argue that students at the school should be allowed to carry firearms on campus.

Earlier that day at the college, 20-year-old Dylan Quick was taken into custody by local authorities for allegedly wounding at least 14 people, two critically, with a razor-like knife. The students, brothers Jonathan and Jon Paul Clayton, argued that this event could have been avoided if students were allowed to carry guns. Morgan, a vocal proponent for stricter gun laws, disagreed.

MORGAN: Let me turn to you, Jonathan and Jon Paul. Although you didn’t see the incident, you have quite strong views about how you think you should be empowered to deal with this kind of thing. Tell me what you think should happen.

JONATHAN CLAYTON, STUDENT AT LONE STAR COLLEGE: Well, sir, I think that — you know that we as students, are — I mean, we are adults and the government does not permit us to have — carry weapons even, sir, even if you have the certificates and certification to carry a handgun. And I think that law should be changed for protection.

MORGAN: So you basically both think —

JON PAUL CLAYTON, STUDENT AT LONE STAR COLLEGE: And I agree. MORGAN: Right. You both think that you should be allowed to carry guns at school?

JON PAUL CLAYTON: Yes, sir. If you’re properly trained and have the certifications and all the legal papers, because 99.9 percent of all gun owners are legal, abiding citizens.

Following the students’ appearance, Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick went on Morgan’s program in an attempt to point out flaws in Morgan’s anti-gun arguments and bolster the case for firearm ownership.

Fact Check: Mass shootings are not on the rise

On Monday, President Obama visited the University of Hartford in Connecticut and gave, what some have described as an “impassioned,” speech on gun control.

He urged, as he’s done now on several occasions, the nation to pressure Congress into voting on legislation that would implement universal background checks and ban so-called military style ‘assault’ weapons and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

“If you’re an American who wants to do something to prevent more families from knowing the immeasurable anguish that these families here have known, then we have to act,” Obama said.

“Now’s the time to get engaged. Now’s the time to get involved. Now’s the time to push back on fear and frustration and misinformation” he continued. “Now’s the time for everybody to make their voices heard, from every statehouse to the corridors of Congress.”

The idea that we have to push back on fear and frustration and misinformation is a powerful one. In fact, it’s totally a valid point. As such, it might be best to revisit one of the more specious arguments coming from pro-gun control advocates: the notion that mass shootings are on the rise in America.

MA:Innocent Victims of Gun Control: The bear attack

A Massachusetts man is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and failing to secure a weapon after using a shotgun to kill a bear that began chasing him in his own backyard while he was stocking his bird feeders.

The man in question is 76 year old Richard Ahlstrand of Auburn Massachusetts and the bear was 7 feet tall and pushing 400 pounds. But despite the reasonable fear that a 76 year old man might feel in such a situation, the local prosecutors have gone after Mr. Ahlstrand with a vengeance.

When he went out that afternoon, he took his shotgun because he had seen the bear the day before and feared that it might still be around. But local officials have used Mr. Ahlstrand’s bird feeder and the presence of the shotgun as the basis of additional charges of illegally baiting a bear and illegally killing a bear.

Apparently, the only thing that Mr. Ahlstrand could have done to satisfy local officials would have been to lay down and die. He says that “They got me set up now like I’m some kind of murderer. And then the environmental guy told me ‘You should have called me instead of shooting it.’ What was I going to do, say ‘Mister Bear would you excuse me please while I go make a phone call?’”

AZ:Phoenix Gun Turn In Locations for May, 2013 (opportunity for cheap guns)

Here are two of the locations for the gun turn ins to be conducted during the first three Saturdays in May, 2013, in Phoenix, Arizona.

$100,000 in gift cards will be available, and will be given out as follows:

$100 for rifles, shotguns, and pistols. $200 for "assault weapons". Magazines will be paid for *only* if they accompany a firearm, so there may be opportunities to pick up some scarce magazines for decent prices. They are offering $10 for magazines that have more than a 10 round and less than a 50 round capability, and only $15 and $25 for magazines that are lager than this, those are expensive. I doubt if they will see any.

Locations:

Southminster Presbyterian Church, 1923 E. Broadway Road.

Betania Presbyterian Church (Predominantly Spanish speaking), 2811 N. 39th Avenue.

A third location is still to be announced.

Arizona protects private sales with a strong preemption law. Constitutional carry is state law. It is unlikely that there will be any harassment by police officials, but I would recommend bringing a recorder just in case.

No differentiation among rifles, pistols, and shotguns is mentioned, so black powder guns seem acceptable. I do not know if they will accept homemade hand cannons. Bring cash, dress for the weather, and remember to be on your best behaviour. These events attract media, that is what they are designed to do. Private buyers disrupt the careful image of "gun ownership is bad", and "Guns are bad".

More details will be coming. A significant media campaign is planned, so details should become very clear as we approach the first Saturday in May.

Mans saves his life with gun, Wants others not to have the option

Bob Jalali is an unlikely figure to be embraced by gun rights supporters. He says he favors President Obama's proposed gun control measures and although he once sold guns at a Prince William County pawn shop, he gave up the license because he didn't like being associated with the weapons.

But on March 7, when a customer at Pawn City in Woodbridge, Va., suddenly began stabbing him, Jalali saved his life by reaching for a handgun.

---------------------------cut----------------------------------

"I have a feeling if he did not have that gun, Woodbridge, Prince William police would have been called out to the scene of a homicide," said the show’s host.

Jalali doesn't disagree.

"In this case it did help me, the gun," he said.

-------------------------------cut--------------------------

"I always said we are paying the police to protect us," said Jalali. "Even if I lose my life, I have to think a gun belongs in the hands of police, not regular citizens.”

CA:Store Owner Uses Gun to Stop Crooks 15 Month Spree

After 15 burglaries over three months, a California hardware store owner took the law into his own hands by catching the men he suspects of robbing him saying, 'This is my property; I’m going to defend it.'

Fed up after losing thousands of dollars worth of gardening equipment and spending money on surveillance cameras and new fencing, Darin Fowler decided the only option was a stake-out.

So on Friday night, Fowler waited up until the early hours of the morning and at 3.30 a.m. pulled his gun on the two unsuspecting men he caught taking equipment out of the store lot.

Canada:Snowbirds say they feel safer in gun-loving Arizona

Re: "Gun culture a shock for snowbirds," Karin Klassen, Opinion, April 8.

Strange, but I know many people who go to Arizona and spend most of the winter there. They all say they feel safer there than they do in Alberta because there are very few rapes, home invasions or burglaries.

Many snowbirds who have property there obtain a firearm. They go to the police and show that they know how to handle firearms safely, are issued a permit, and buy a pistol and ammo. It can serve as protection, though it is very safe, or simply sport shooting, as ranges are everywhere and easily accessed.

The vast majority of Arizonans are friendly and enjoy the camaraderie and participation of Canadians in their sport shooting activities. Nevada is much the same, with huge training facilities for sport and defensive shooting, as are most states with concealed or open carry.

13 Killed in Rampage Shooting in Serbia, Under Strict Gun Control

Draconian gun restrictions do not stop mass public shootings. Yesterday, in Serbia, where semi-automatic and automatic rifles are outlawed, and licenses to own firearms are only issued when the Ministry of the Interior determines that the the applicant has a valid "need", a man went on a rampage near Belgrade, killing 13 people.

The 60 year old man who did the shooting was reported to have a license for the handgun used.

Solution to criminal violence? End gun control.

One of our commenters named Jack posted an excellent response to Peter Tomaras’ Gun Control Reality Check epistle.
Here is the REAL solution: end gun control. Follow the constitution, as most states did prior to 1968 and the federal government did prior to 1934. NO INFRINGEMENT.

Why not give freedom a chance? It worked for two centuries. Do we have to all be enslaved because “minorities” and over-medicated whites commit crimes?

All these Liberals believe that gun owners are the problem. We are not Gang Ghetto Youths or mentally ill teens.

My child’s life should not be endangered by the gun control nazis. Sandy Hook parents failed to protect their children, so now they want my daughter dead; sacrificed on the alter of Liberalism to appease their guilt. Shame on them.

Liberals, deal with your inner rage and hate; stop projecting it onto us. Conservatives, stop letting the state try to control everything with laws that violate principals of freedom. Support the original intent of the Bill of Rights!

We have to say, well done.

For those aghast at the idea that somehow a lack of gun laws is “dangerous” we invite you to consider a pair of notable facts:

1. Florida has over one million active concealed carry permits and the rate of firearms violent crime is at record lows.

2. Chicago, with 532 homicides in 2012, is replete with strict gun control. It’s onerous and obnoxious and keeps that city’s law-abiding folks disarmed because of the expense, time and trouble involved with complying with local regulations.

A half-hour or so west of Chicago (in light traffic) lies Illinois’ second largest city of Aurora, which does not have Chicago-style handgun control. Last year, Aurora had zero homicides.

It’s not rocket science.

Gun control only increases violent crime every time.

Police Oppose Gun Control

March 2013 survey of police officers covered proposed legislation and attitudes about arming citizens

SAN FRANCISCO – PoliceOne.com, the leading online resource for law enforcement, today released findings from a national survey of police professionals that provide insight into the opinions of American law enforcement regarding gun control policies and the root causes of and potential solutions to gun crime in the United States. The survey, which was conducted in early March 2013, received 15,000 responses from law enforcement professionals. It found that the overall attitude of law enforcement is strongly anti-gun legislation and pro-gun rights, with the belief that an armed citizenry is effective in stopping crime. Response percentages varied only slightly when analyzed by rank and department size. Among the results:

  • 86 percent feel the currently proposed legislation would have no effect or a negative effect on improving officer safety
  • Similarly, 92 percent feel that banning semi-automatic firearms, or “assault weapons,” would have no effect or a negative effect on reducing violent crime
  • Demonstrating the opinion that the best way to combat gun crime is through harsher punishment, 91 percent said the use of a firearm while perpetrating a crime should lead to a stiff, mandatory sentence with no plea bargains. Likewise, 59 percent believe increasing punishment severity for unlicensed dealers would reduce crime
  • Respondents were more split on background checks, with 31 percent agreeing that mental health background checks in all gun sales would help reduce mass shootings, while 45 percent disagreed
  • 71 percent support law enforcement leaders who have publicly refused to enforce more restrictive gun laws within their jurisdictions
  • 82 percent believe gun buyback or turn-in programs are ineffective in reducing the level of gun violence

Turning Gun Owners into Felons(What they mean when they say "Universal Background Checks"

A new bill would make it a crime to “transfer” your gun to a spouse for more than seven days.

Public-opinion polls about “universal background checks” for gun sales show widespread support. While President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg talk about “gun sales,” the actual legislation moving through Congress aims to regulate far more than sales. It would turn almost every gun owner into a felon. The trick is that the language under consideration applies not only to sales but also to “transfers,” which are defined to include innocent activities such as letting your spouse borrow your gun for a few hours.

Consider, for example, Senate bill S.649, which the Senate will soon take up for debate. The background-check portion of the bill, Charles Schumer’s “Fix Gun Checks Act,” is based on model language that the Bloomberg gun-control lobby is pushing all over the country.

To see how the Bloomberg bill makes felons of people who do not sell guns, consider a woman who buys a rifle when she is 25 years old. She keeps the rifle her entire life. Yet over her lifetime, she — like most gun owners — engages in dozens of firearms “transfers.” She brings the unloaded rifle to a friend’s house, for instance, because the friend is thinking of buying a gun and wants to learn more about guns. The friend handles the rifle for a few minutes before handing it back. Another time, the woman lends the gun to her niece, who takes it on a camping trip for the weekend.

Then they attempted to rob two women at their home in the 100 block of Dennis Drive.

However, one of the women had the chance to grab a handgun from inside the home and shoot Willis in the abdomen.

Lots of folks on corners with "CASH 4 GUNS" signs.

Many of these turn in events are finding competition these days. Now it appears that the MSM has found a way to minimize the protests. Simply do not mention it. Here are a number of links for other events that featured private sales:

TX:Thug Threatens man, Gets Shot

PASADENA, Texas – A 42-year-old man shot and killed one of three robbery suspects who threatened him as he was walking home from the store along Hawthorne late Friday night.

According to police, Artemio Caballero was walking in the 600 block of Hawthorne near Wafer Street after leaving the Walmart Super Center nearby where he bought a pair of boots.

A dark-colored pickup pulled up alongside Caballero, police said. One of the passengers got out, pulled a gun on the Caballero and demanded he hand over the bag.

As Caballero was about to hand it over, another suspect in the truck said, “Just go ahead and shoot him anyway.” Cabellero pulled his own gun and shot the suspect pointing the gun at him twice.

Gun Control Burdens Millions Of Americans

The problem is that millions of people do not own guns, and therefore think that the costs to *them* are trivial.

President Obama wants to restrict the millions in hopes of stopping a handful. It’s like throwing up police roadblocks all across America to conduct a search.

A police roadblock stops everybody so they can search for one or two people. Magnify it by millions and it’s the gun control model being pushed by President Obama.

From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.

We all agree: deranged and dangerous people should not have firearms.

But how do we find them in a country of over 300-million people? We have about 17-million gun sales a year; over 30-million Americans have hunting licenses. Crazed killers like in Newtown and Aurora are deadly, but very few in number compared to the rest of us.

President Obama wants to restrict the millions in hopes of stopping a handful. It’s like throwing up police roadblocks all across America to conduct a search.

But just as the targets can simply bypass a roadblock, those who commit the worst crimes often steal guns or get them in backstreet transactions.

New burdens on the law-abiding millions are not the answer.

FL:Cheap Guns Opportunity in Miramar, April 20th, 2013

A gun turn in event in Miramar, Florida delivers an opportunity for Second Amendment activists to obtain some nice guns for little money. Their actions would also create a media event to protect Second Amendment Rights.

The event will be held at ChristWay Baptist Church, 3800 S. Douglas Road on April 20th, a Saturday. These events are political theater, designed to delegitimize gun ownership and armed citizens.

Across the country, freedom fighters are showing up at these events, and offering cash for the better specimens. This should be welcomed by event organizers, if their purpose is to "get guns off the streets". This is because such activity stretches the turn in dollars, prevents poor widows from being defrauded of their valuable property for a pittance, and places guns that are not wanted in responsible hands.

Private sales are perfectly legal in Florida, as they are in most states.

There appears to be only $5,000 dollars available for this event, so there could be excellent opportunity to obtain items after the money runs out. They are offering up to $200 dollars per item, but I suspect much less for most.

It appears that this event is trying to prevent private sales by insisting that the firearms be kept in car trunks and that the owners stay in the car until an officer takes the firearms out of the trunk.

Local information would be appreciated, as these events are often held in poor neighborhoods.

No money is being offered for pellet guns. There are expensive pellet guns out there, it is possible one might show up.

Cheap Guns and Second Amendment Opportunity: Terra Haute, Indiana, 13 April, 2013

A "soft tyranny" turns hard after they disarm the people in the name of "Public Safety"

Indiana’s Answer to School Shootings: Law requiring armed personnel in every school

In response to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, lawmakers in Indiana are looking to pass a bill that would require at least one teacher, principal or staff member to carry a firearm in every school in the state.

Proponents of Senate Bill 1 argue that having armed personnel in schools would help to keep students and teachers safe, providing both a deterrent and a line of defense against a deranged gunman — an approach to school security that is fully endorsed by the National Rifle Association’s National School Shield Program.

“I’ve been approached by several teachers that would love the ability to have their natural right to self-defense recognized and would gladly do this without being paid,” Indiana bill sponsor Rep. Jim Lucas told Fox News.

Murders in NYC by ethnicity, 2003-2011

The graphic from the New York Times is very much in line with this article:

European Murder Rates Compared to the United States: Demographics vs Guns

The article shows that the difference in murder rates between developed European countries and the United States is accounted for by differences in the demographics of cultural groups. Gun laws or the rate of gun ownership does not correlate to murder rates.

BIDS vs NICS

BIDS v. NICS

If we must have gun-buyer background checks to stop criminals, at least do it without compiling massive records on the innocent.

A simple system called BIDS can do this, and at far less cost than NICS.

Basically, BIDS distributes the list of hardcore prohibited possessors to federally licensed firearm dealers. Dealers check their customers against the computerized list to lockout illegal sales. This maintains the privacy of innocent citizens and eliminates the potential for illegal government registries. It's simple. It's cheap. It works. Do it.

BIDS: “Blind Identification Database System”

by Alan Korwin, Author Gun Laws of America

It sticks in my craw, and I know I’m not alone in recognizing, that under the guise of reducing violence, the Brady handgun violence prevention law has put every retail gun sale in the country under control of our federalized leaders. The idea that I need federal permission to buy private property is outrageous to me. It is not what I think of when I think of freedom. The fact that the property could be used dangerously, or that criminals use the property illegally and immorally, does not adequately justify the usurpation of my freedoms, as it has done. Despite the seemingly noble intent of the law to restrict criminals, criminals are largely unaffected. Criminals who want to arm themselves, which after all is what criminals do, simply arm themselves anyway, as they have done since time immemorial, and laugh at the law. The biggest net effect of the law seems to be record keeping on innocent purchasers, to the tune of about ten million records a year. We are assured in law and in public statements from our federalized leaders that the records are not permanent, so they can’t be used against us. Few people believe that. There is no way to tell for sure. Past history suggests it’s false.

The next biggest effect is perhaps a federal jobs program. Precise figures are unavailable, but when the program was initiated, 900 clerks were hired to sit in FBI paid-for cubicles, answer phone calls from firearm dealers nationwide, and type the names of prospective buyers into a database for storage. And a background check. Countless support and technical jobs were created to run the FBI’s long-sought single-location citizen checking system. The Clarksville, W. Va., facility is now the heart of all FBI people tracking for the entire planet.

Initially, attorney general Janet Reno actually had the gall to say the quarter-billion-dollar computer they had built for the task could not erase records at all, let alone instantly, as the enabling act required. How dumb do they think we are. This from the team that now assures us records are not kept.

A minor effect, but an important one, is that the requirement to use the NICS background check system before a sale is completed, gives those in control the power to turn off gun sales nationwide (or regionally) at the flip of a switch. As they have done numerous times in the past, the system is turned off for maintenance, or for tests, or it goes down as such systems do, and gun sales grind to a complete halt until the feds turn the system back on. Again, not what I think of when I think of freedom.

AZ: Two armed citizens end armed robber’s crime spree and it’s all caught on tape (VIDEO)

With the help of two armed citizens, police arrested a man accused of robbing three different pharmacies in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 25.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump told local media that the suspect James Johnson, 43, hit three pharmacies within a three-hour span in the Phoenix area.

In all three incidents Johnson walked in the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded prescription painkillers, which has become a popular drug in the area, according to area police.

Police said Johnson’s crime spree started around 9:30 that Monday morning when he walked into a local pharmacy, pulled a handgun on an employee and demanded Oxycotin. The clerk compiled and quickly turned over the pills. With the drugs in hand, Johnson ran out, jumped into the passenger seat of a black Ford Expedition and took off.

About two hours later, Johnson ran into another pharmacy located about 20-minutes away from the first scene, pointed a gun at a pregnant employee and passed her a note demanding Oxycotin pills, but before she or the clerk beside her could comply, a third employee stepped out with a gun in hand and trained it on Johnson.

Staring down the barrel of a gun, Johnson began to comply with the armed employee’s demand to “get down on the floor” as seen in the video. However, before the employee could make another move Johnson hopped up and dashed out the store empty-handed.

Beretta has had enough of Maryland

Beretta’s had enough of Maryland’s ever-more restrictive gun laws and announced they’ll abandon their facilities in Accokeek for a more firearms-friendly locale. From opposingviews.com:

“Beretta warned that stricter gun control laws would push the company outside of state lines, but that didn’t stop Maryland legislators.

Jeffrey Reh, a spokesman for Beretta who also serves as the President of Stoeger Industries under Beretta, announced that the company would begrudgingly uproot and take its business elsewhere.

He said, ‘We don’t want to do this, we’re not willing to do this, but obviously this legislation has caused us a serious level of concern within our company.’ He added that Beretta paid approximately $31 million in taxes, employs 400 people, and had invested $73 million in the business over the past several decades.”

Gun Owners of America Chief to Chris Matthews: 'We Don't Trust People Like You'

MSNBC's Chris Matthews had quite a heated debate Thursday with Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America.

At the end of a highly-contentious Hardball segment, Pratt told his host that he's against all background checks "because we don't trust people like you" (video follows with transcript):

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I'm left with the idea we live in an imperfect society with some people who are violent and the people who are known to be violent shouldn't get guns. Do you agree with that?

LARRY PRATT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA: Yes, and as long as you don't take my guns away from me, I can handle the guy with the gun.

MATTHEWS: See, this is pure rhetoric. I’m sticking to one point tonight.

PRATT: Oh, I see. My linear logic is pure rhetoric and you're jumping from…

MATTHEWS: No, you’re changing the topic. I'm talking about do we want background checks? You don't want them?

PRATT: The ACLU tells me this is a dangerous proposition.

MATTHEWS: You. You don’t want them.

PRATT: The ACLU.

MATTHEWS: Can we speak for ourselves here?

PRATT: Can you take an answer other than forcing one?

MATTHEWS: No, I want to know, Larry Pratt, where do you stand on background checks?

PRATT: I told you where I stand.

MATTHEWS: Are you against background checks?

PRATT: From the very beginning, Chris, we were against them.

MATTHEWS: Are you against the ones we have now?

PRATT: Because we don't trust people like you.

MATTHEWS: [Laughs] Okay. Thank you. Actually, a lot of people do. They're watching. Anyway, thank you, Larry Pratt. You’ve explained yourself perfectly. You’re against all background checks.

Names changed to protect privacy

Thanks for all the info. I guess I had thought of this kind of rifle as belonging to gangs and not for sale to the general public. When George was in Viet Nam he shot a M16, which gave me the image that this kind of gun maybe should not be for the public.

But the way that you have discribed a use for this, gives it a different flavor. Probably would stop anyone in their tracks (just the sight of it). The knowledge that you have more shots seems almost impressive, if it would be needed. Not likely that a person would run out. Something to think about. Not a lot of kick. But tearing it down and cleaning would take some practice. Not impossible. From the stories I've heard the M16 could be taken apart and cleaned and put back together rather quickly. Not that everyone would be in a race.

Thank you for answering. I will keep your information. I appreciate it. Sally

Why would people want an AR-15? A question from Sally

Dean, Hi. Just seeing your blog. Why would people want an AR-15? What would be the purpose of having one? Just to have it? I am sure it is a powerful gun. Guns are fun - because they are power, at least I think so. And I don't have much experience with guns. There seems to be a big debate going on about them and their magazine. Thanks. Sally

Sally:

There are many reasons for owning guns, so your question is rather like: Why would people want to own a Cadillac, or Why would people want to own a four wheel drive pick up truck? In a free society, it is up to those who would stop people from owning things to show why there is an overwhelming reason to prevent people from owning something. We do not (yet) live in a marxist society where the government bureaucrats decide what we "need", as in "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need".

AR-15 rifles are the most desired rifles in the United States right now, and have been the fastest selling for a number of years. Part of the reason for this is that they are easily customized and have numerous accessories that may be added by the owner. Another reason is that they may be the best choice for a home defense long gun. Other reasons are that they are the most common type of rifle used by police, and that all veterans have been trained in the use of the military counterpart, the M16 or M4, which are very similar, but have burst or full auto capabilities.

If I were to choose an all around home defense long gun (not a handgun), I would choose the AR-15. It is light and easy to use. It has exceptional deterrent value, because an evil doer easily recognizes it and its reputation for deadly capability. It can be loaded with frangible bullets that do not penetrate any further than buckshot from a shotgun. It is very accurate and has the capability for easy additions of lasers, lights and optical sights. It accepts standard capacity magazines of 20 or 30 round capacity. The capacity of the magazines allows for warning shots, missed shots, multiple assailants, and repeat shots to a tough opponent or large, dangerous animal. Its recoil is relatively low and easy to control.

As you likely have heard, rifles, in 2009, were used in only 348 murders. Semi-automatic rifles are only a fraction of all rifles, so AR-15 rifles were likely used in less than 50 murders in 2009. Hands and feet were used to murder 801. Blunt objects were used to murder 611. All other guns totaled over 9,000 murders. The numbers have dropped since then.

The idea that these type of rifles, which are among the firearm types that are least used in crime, but are among the most common is society, should be selectively banned is insane.

But, that is the society that we live in with the MSM (Main Stream Media) in power.

I think many people want to own this rifle as a means of protesting against the continual encroachment of government power into our lives.

The purchase of this rifle says to those who would ban it: "Stop. This is a Constitutional Right. You are going too far."

A little long winded. I hope it answers your question.

3D Printed AK Magazine Released by Defense Distributed

Defense Distributed has released a video of a 3D printed AK-47 type magazine. The exact capacity of the magazine is not specified, though it appears to be about 30 rounds. In the video, I did not see more than 10 rounds fired from any particular magazine. The video was released a few hours ago on April 5, 2013.

I embeded the video, and it worked fine, but on a retest a few minutes later, the video was labled as "not found". I found the same response at the Defense Distributed site.

Update: The video is available again.

I checked the site where Defense Distributed releases its files for 3D printed objects that are banned elsewhere, the Island of Misfit Objects and did not find the AK magazine files available for distribution. I expect that they will be made available fairly quickly.

Defense Distributed is still raising funds for full implementation of their searchable webpage for 3D printing files, so this may be the reason for the inability to find the Feinstein Magazine files (named after the infamous Senator who wishes to gradually disarm Americans).

The site does have the files available for their improved and reinforced AR-15 lower receiver and their 30 round AR-15 Magazine named "the Cuomo", in honor of the infamous anti-freedom Governor.

Youtube video embeded.

1- "Background gun check records are saved."

The lamestream media told you:

It's only reasonable, and studies show the overwhelming majority of Americans support universal background checks. We're not talking about registering guns.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

How soon we forget. When the NICS computer was built and turned on by attorney general Janet Reno, in compliance with the Brady bill in 1994, she announced that the system not only would not erase records immediately after a gun-buyer background check as required by law, it could NOT erase records at all. She said it with a straight face, to Congress.

The Justice Dept. under Bill Clinton, had built a computer capable of checking out every American, from one spot in West Virginia, controlled by the FBI, a dream project the Bureau was dying for, and the quarter-billion dollar computer was incapable of deleting a record. That's what Janet Reno wanted us to believe, it's what she told us, and who knows -- maybe it's exactly what she built. We have no way to know. [Note: C'mon it's a computer, there's no such thing as one that can't delete a file, she lied through her teeth, had planned this all along].

Congress went wild, because the bill that authorized the monster computer (read, buildings full of equipment and staff) required that background check records be destroyed instantly after the background check was completed. Congress was well aware, and had been pressured incessantly by its constituents, not to start creating rosters of gun owners. The only way the background check got in the bill at all was with instant destruction of the record mandatory. Turns out statute didn't matter much to the feds.

Gun-owner registries are the start of confiscations, everyone knew that, history proved it over and over all last century. Now the government had gone and done that very thing, directly against the law. The so-called background check computer was a recording device.

They use the same machine today of course and no, you can't look at it. The FBI, which knew the Brady bill was its one vehicle for their much-coveted one-stop-shopping ID checker, didn't scrap it and start over. They only had this shot at the $250 million needed to build the thing, including the "campus" features, ongoing operating costs, and of course the upgrades, maintenance, and literal federal jobs program that goes with it. But it's still the NICS system Janet Reno gave us, retrofitted to erase some records somehow, probably. There is no way to know. The FBI will not allow you in for an independent audit.

It's worse than that. Multiple federal sources have revealed that the information checking infrastructure of the NICS system, and its interconnected NCIC and III data systems, link with international sources of criminal data. Record destruction is not a requirement anywhere but here (and even here it can be disregarded at will, as we've seen), so "privacy" might as well all be wishful thinking. On top of this, ten consecutive sets of backups are made, it's routine, according to agents within the FBI, and these are sequentially stored and destroyed, over some time frame, on and off site... it's complicated.

The government has already told us that background check records are saved. It has built a system designed to save records and register gun owners, with no way to behave differently, in direct defiance of written law. It has provided no way to confirm that such records are not saved.

This is like hearing Iran continuously say they are not building nuclear weapons, while they continue to build their nuclear weapons. The calls for universal background checks are a deception. The NICS background check system is designed as and fully functional as a record storage system and federal gun registry. The risks it presents to freedom is so significantly great it should be dismantled, and replaced with the equally effective, far less expensive, non-invasive transparency of the BIDS system.

WA:Widowed grandmother detains intruder at gunpoint

A fairly long account with quite a bit of detail.

A widowed grandmother who awoke to the sound of her back door being smashed open held the intruder at gunpoint until police arrived at her North Spokane home early today.

Spokane Police Lt. Dean Sprague said the 63-year-old woman fired one shot at the man when she found him in her home around 12:20 a.m. but he was not injured.

“I just woke up with the crash and grabbed my gun and got out of bed and said ‘I’m armed’ and he kept coming at me,” homeowner Sandra Mize said. “I shot off one round and he kept coming, so I started backing up.”

The man “flopped” on her sofa, she said, and she was able to get to a phone to call for help. Police arrived shortly after and took Sean Denny, 35, into custody on burglary charges. He was ordered held at the Spokane County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police believe the break-in was not Denny’s first of the night.

Montana Governor Lies About the Constitution, Vetoes 2nd Amendment Protection Bill

Here’s a surprise for you; some Governors have absolutely zero understanding of the Constitution. None, whatsoever. Montana Governor Steve Bullock seems to fit that description quite nicely.

Yesterday, he vetoed Montana House Bill 302 (HB302). The bill would require the state to refuse to enforce or assist the enforcement of any federal bans on semiautomatic weapons or large capacity magazines. The bill states, in part:

A peace officer, state employee, or employee of any political subdivision is prohibited from enforcing, assisting in the enforcement of, or otherwise cooperating in the enforcement of a federal ban on semiautomatic weapons or large magazines and is also prohibited from participating in any federal enforcement action implementing a federal ban on semiautomatic weapons or large magazines.

Here’s why Bullock is clueless about the Constitution. In his veto message he wrote that the bill would put “law enforcement in the position of violating laws they have sworn to uphold” and “subject our peace officers to criminal sanctions for upholding the oath we ask that they take.”

Here’s a message for you, Steve. You’re a liar, and we know it.

There is absolutely ZERO serious discussion from anyone beyond a 4th grade education about the fact that the federal government cannot “commandeer” the states to carry out its laws. None.

Even the Supreme Court has affirmed this multiple times.

SAF WINS PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION AGAINST NEW MEXICO CONCEALED CARRY BAN

BELLEVUE, WA — The Second Amendment Foundation has won a preliminary injunction against a part of the State of New Mexico’s concealed carry statute on the grounds that it violates the right of equal protection under the law.

The ruling, handed down by the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, was signed by M. Christina Armijo, the chief district judge.

SAF filed the legal action on behalf of John Jackson, a permanent legal resident alien who could not obtain a concealed carry permit under existing New Mexico statute because he is not a U.S. citizen. SAF has challenged similar bans in other jurisdictions.

“We’re delighted with the outcome of this challenge,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “The right of self-protection should not be denied to people who are active and productive members of the community simply because they do not meet the citizenship requirement of a state statute.”

In reaching its ruling, the court applied a heightened standard of scrutiny and concluded that the citizenship provision of New Mexico’s law is severable from the remainder of the state Concealed Handgun Carry Act.

“While the law allowed Mr. Jackson to openly carry a firearm,” Gottlieb noted, “there are certain areas and circumstances when doing so would be imprudent or potentially in violation of other legal restrictions. This ruling will make it possible for Mr. Jackson and other legal resident aliens to exercise their right to bear arms.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation's oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. In addition to the landmark McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court Case, SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; New Orleans; Chicago and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and numerous amicus briefs holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

WI:Aldermen want to exempt elected officials from City Hall weapons ban

This from a couple of weeks ago.

RACINE — Elected city officials with concealed carry licenses would be exempt from an ordinance banning weapons in city-owned buildings, under an ordinance amendment approved 13-0 Tuesday by the City Council’s Committee of the Whole.

The state’s concealed carry law went into effect in November 2011. Just before it went into place, Mayor John Dickert issued an executive order banning anyone other than law enforcement officers from bringing a gun or any other weapon into City Hall or other city-owned buildings.

On Feb. 20 the Committee of the Whole recommended 8-2 that the executive order be codified by drafting an ordinance.

When the committee met on Tuesday to review the ordinance, Alderman Greg Helding requested an amendment that would allow elected officials to carry concealed weapons in city-owned buildings if they are properly licensed by the state.

MD:Retired Officer Kills Man in Apparent Attempted Home Invasion

More detail in this story. Only one weapon is mentioned in the hands of the invaders. Note that this counts as being attacked by someone that you know. We may never know the full details.

A retired D.C. police officer shot and killed a man during an apparent attempted home invasion in Calvert County, Md., Sunday night, and detectives arrested a woman they found at the deceased's residence in Lusby.

The incident began shortly before 10:30 p.m., when the former officer heard several loud bangs on his front door in the 3600 block of Harlequin Court in Huntingtown, according to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. He grabbed a handgun and answered the door, finding two people there.

One brandished a weapon and both made aggressive movements toward the homeowner, who fired shots at them in fear of his life.

Police have identified the man shot and killed during an attempted home invasion in Huntingtown late Sunday. A second suspect has been taken into custody.

Police say Kevin Wayne Chapman and April Lynn Stewart had planned to rob a retired D.C. police officer at his home. According to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, the two started banging on the front door around 10:30 p.m. and were greeted by the retired officer armed with a handgun.

A former mayoral candidate in Tucson, Ariz., is drawing heated criticism from Democrats after he launched a program this week to hand out free shotguns in high-crime neighborhoods.

Shaun McClusky, who kicked off the program Monday, financed it with initial donor commitments of $12,000. He told FoxNews.com that with those private donations alone, he can arm and train 36 people -- and hopes to begin that process in 60 days.

Not surprisingly, the plan has met with outraged indignation from the anti-self-defense crowd:
House Minority Leader Chad Campbell called it "ideological extremism at its worst" and "a political gimmick that could have dangerous consequences."
Some might argue that if one were looking for "ideological extremism" that risked "dangerous consequences," one could do far worse than to focus on those who condemn helping the poor in dangerous neighborhoods learn how to defend themselves, and equipping them with the necessary tools.

As it turns out, the Tucson program is actually an expansion of a project that is already well underway in Houston, having already trained and armed 10 women living in dangerous neighborhoods, who would otherwise have been unable to afford the gun and training. From another Fox News article:

Soup Nazi fires off over guns

The article shows how biased the New York Post is. They say that Serbu "claims" to refuse to sell guns to governments in New York, even when he tells them exactly that. From the article:
Mark Serbu told us, “I refused to sell my rifles to the NYPD, and when I talked about it online, it blew up like crazy. Everybody liked the idea of a gun law biting the government on the ass. There are only two manufacturers of semi-automatic 50-caliber rifles in the US, and neither will sell to the NYPD. This is like, ‘Screw you, New York.’ People are less safe without our rifles to protect you.

“Larry Thomas doesn’t want his face on our shirt . . . He’s an actor, he doesn’t want to be involved with something as hot-button as guns. We are just going to shoot him. Only joking. We don’t want to get into a lawsuit; we’ll change the shirts.”

The picture of the actor at the New York Post is interesting. He appears to be a very angry man. I cannot believe that he is happy.

Jon J. Ray has said that is the major characteristic of leftists. They are full of rage.

AZ:County supervisors vote 3-to-2 to approve employee weapon carry

Mohave County Board of Supervisors approved employee weapon carry Monday during a general meeting in Kingman. Supervisor Gary Watson, R-Dist. 1, and Supervisor Hildy Angius, R-Dist. 2, were opposed.

The measure affects the county administration building, at 700 W. Beale Street, in Kingman. The policy will be evaluated in six months.

------------------------cut-------------------------------------

In March, county supervisors approved a measure allowing citizens to carry weapons into the county administration building, however those weapons must be holstered, in a scabbard, or in a purse or fanny pack.

TX:Dallas DA Encourages Prosecutors to Carry Handguns

In the wake of the tragic murders of two prosecutors, and one's spouse, in Kaufman County, Texas, county courthouses across Texas are promising beefed up security. While these plans will certainly include more armed guards, the District Attorney in Dallas County is advising its prosecutors to take their own steps for personal protection. “We encourage our prosecutors to have a security handgun license, as long as they do it within the letter of the law,” a DA spokeswoman told local CBS News.

Mike McLelland, the murdered DA of Kaufman County himself carried a firearm with him when he was outside his home or office. Currently, only police officers are allowed to carry firearms inside courthouses. McLelland told Breitbart News, in an interview conducted a few weeks ago, that he was working with TX state Rep. Lance Gooden on legislation to give prosecutors the same privileges as other law enforcement officers.

We need to be just like other law enforcement officers," McLelland said. "We need to be allowed to open carry our sidearms."

Jews and guns

This is an excerpt from a great article by Dennis Prager

How many Jews the Nazis would have murdered if most European Jews had guns is impossible to know. But common sense suggests that the number would have been much lower. The Warsaw Ghetto revolt was begun with 10 old pistols and very little ammunition. Later a few hundred pistols and rifles and a few machine guns were smuggled into the ghetto. Himmler told Hitler he would quell the revolt in three days. It took four weeks. Many hundreds of German troops — perhaps a thousand — were killed or wounded.

If the Nazis knew that Jews refused to go to roundup areas and that many Jews were armed, awaiting Nazis to enter every apartment, it is difficult to imagine that the Nazi genocidal machinery would have been nearly as effective. And, vitally important, even had the number of Jews murdered been near 6 million (which I doubt), not all ways of dying are equal. There is a world of difference between being gassed or shot to death while standing naked beside the mass grave you were forced to dig and getting killed while shooting a Nazi.

The first thing every totalitarian regime does is confiscate weapons. As long as evil people have guns, good people will need to have them. This is true for nations (which is why it is so important for America and for the world that America have the strongest military) and it is true for individuals.

The Armed Citizen Project

There is a video of a CNN interview at the site. Kyle Coplen does a very good job of getting his points across, dispite the silliness of the hosts. He refuses to back down. Dean Weingarten

The Armed Citizen Project is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to training and arming residents in mid-high crime areas with defensive shotguns, for free! In training and arming law-abiding residents, we are saturating neighborhoods with defensive weapons, and measuring the effect that a heavily armed society has on crime rates.

Our founder, Kyle Coplen, is a policy analyst in his final semester of the Masters of Public Administration program with the University of Houston. Tired of the blatant manipulation and politicization of statistics when it comes to the relationship between firearms and safety, Kyle decided to conduct a multi-year, multi-city study that may be able to establish the definitive link that the gun debate is sorely lacking.

We are an organization that is not simply content to hold the line on guns. If the fight does not come to us, we will go to it. We are also training and arming single women in high crime areas, competing against gun buybacks, calling out anti-gun politicians as being pro-crime, and fighting the anti-gun establishment in general. We are pissing off all of the right (left) people, having a blast doing it. We hope that you join our fight today.

“It didn’t occur to me that the shot had ricocheted because the guy just kept coming at me and fighting me.”

Adam Lanza & His Mother Were Not NRA Members

Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- After search warrants of Adam Lanza’s home uncovered NRA certificates in Lanza and his mother’s names, as well as an NRA pistol shooting guide, the NRA did a records search and announced that neither Adam nor his mother were members of the NRA.

Although the discovery of the certificates and the guide led some to assume Lanza and his mom were members of the NRA, the gun rights group says the truth is completely otherwise:

“There is no record of a relationship between Newtown killer Adam Lanza, nor between Nancy Lanza, A. Lanza or N. Lanza, with the National Rifle Association. Reporting to the contrary is reckless, false, and defamatory.”
NRA certificates can be acquired by passing certain pistol safety and training courses around the country. These certificates do not necessarily represent an NRA membership, but rather signify that the NRA has endorsed the safety or training course.

Lanza and his mother may have acquired their certificates in this manner.

Breaking: Defense Distributed website seized, Cody Wilson arrested on conspiracy charges!

Unknown details at this time. Defense Distributed website now displays the logos of Department of Justice and Homeland Security Investigations, and the following information:
This domain name associated with the website DefenseDistributed.com or Defcad.org has been seized pursuant to an order issued by a U.S. District Court.
The webpage goes on to say that several individuals and entities have been indicted and charged with federal crimes including conspiracy to violate the Arms Export Control Act, the Undetectable Firearms Act, and others.

At this time, I have no other confirmation of these arrests or actions.

There is some doubt about this action as the word "entities" is mispelled as "entitites" on the page.

If this is confirmed, it is a major chilling of free speech and net freedom. Defense Distributed had just obtained a federal license to make firearms.

Cody Wilson and Defense Distributed have been primary promoters of the concept of 3D printed firearms and magazines. There are obvious political motivations for the Obama administration to stop their activities, which have often been cited as showing how it would be impossible to enforce a federal magazine ban or ban on semi-automatic modern sporting rifles.

Cody Wilson had always said that they would be careful to follow federal law.

This may be a case of "three felonies a day" where the federal government is able to find that anyone has committed felonies every day, under broad and vague federal statues.

CO:Walmart Robbery Attempt Stopped by Armed Pastor

A retired pastor was parked in his RV in Colorado springs in a Walmart parking lot last April. The pastor is diabetic and disabled. Inside, the pastor was sleeping when a young man jumped on the hood and ran toward the vent on top. The pastor, wakened by the racket of heavy footsteps on top of the RV, grabbed his shotgun and yelled, "Get off the roof or I will shoot through it!" The would be robber jumped off the roof, onto the hood. Somewhere in this process, the windshield of the RV was broken.
RV whose windshield was broken. Notice handicapped symbol and large vent

As the perpetrator ran toward a confederate in a waiting car, the pastor grabbed his pants and started the RV. He was able to use the RV to pin the perpetrators car so that they could not flee the scene. He said that the perpetrators likely stayed because they were afraid they would be shot.

He shone a spotlight on the perpetrators and took down their license number. Then he backed up and they rapidly exited the area.

The pastor called the police, who came and took the report.

The perpetrators were caught, but the pastor refused to file charges, asking that punishment be given in such a way as to allow them to turn their lives around. He received restitution for the broken windshield. The perpetrators did some community service.

The pastor does not wish his name to be used, but was willing to have his picture associated with this article.

This is the type of defensive use of a firearm that is seldom reported in the old media.

This is original reporting, told to me by the pastor involved.

AZ:Free shotgun program divides Tucson residents

Surprisingly balanced article for AP, which has been blatantly pushing civilian disarmament for decades. Dean Weingarten

TUCSON (AP) — A campaign promising free shotguns for people in Tucson’s most troubled neighborhoods has divided some residents in a community still reeling from a shooting rampage in 2011 that killed six people, left a congresswoman and several others wounded, and made the city a symbol of gun violence in America.

The nonprofit Armed Citizen Project is part of a national campaign to give shotguns to single women and homeowners in neighborhoods with high-crime rates. The effort comes amid a national debate on gun control after mass shootings in Arizona, Colorado and Connecticut.

TN:Local Gun Owners Rally for 2nd Amendment Rights

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The parking lot in front of Freedom Deli at 2088 Lowes Drive in Clarksville was filled Friday, March 29 with over 200 supporters of the 2nd Amendment at a Rally for the rights of gun owners.

Tennessee State Senator Mark Green spoke from the back of a truck and lent his support to the cause, beginning by reading from the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,” Green said.

Green added that it was clear to him that the authors of the 2nd Amendment intended to provide the citizens a means to defend freedom against government whether it’s at home or abroad. Green also talked about legislation currently being considered by Tennessee lawmakers that may affect the rights of gun owners.
