Florida: Shopping Center shooting: "A shooting outside a North Miami-Dade shopping plaza Sunday morning left a security guard wounded, a man dead and another on the run, Miami-Dade police said. The wild scene played out at around 9 a.m. as early-morning shoppers began arriving at the center anchored by a Winn-Dixie supermarket at Northwest Seventh Avenue and 111th Street. It's unclear yet what sparked the incident, but it may have been a confrontation between two young men and the guard, and not an attempted robbery. Witnesses said the security guard appeared to be making his rounds at the center in a golf cart when he was approached by the men. There was a confrontation that escalated. Investigators said one of the men pulled a gun and shot the guard in the upper chest. The guard returned fire, hitting one of the men, who fell in the parking lot. The second man took off into a neighborhood just northeast of the shopping center. The security guard along with the other man were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Hospital, Williams said. The wounded man was declared dead at the hospital. His name has not been released. The security guard, who was shot in the upper torso, was undergoing surgery. He also had not been identified Sunday night."

Israelis need guns: "A Palestinian man was shot dead after attempting to stab two Israeli hitchhikers near Shiloh, Judea and Samaria police said on Monday. Both civilians escaped unharmed. Police spokesman Dani Poleg confirmed that the attacker was killed by an Israeli civilian who fired on him using his handgun. The incident took place at a hitchhiking post on Highway 60, between Shiloh and the Eli Junction, on Monday evening. "We have a military report saying the assailant is now dead. Two civilians were at the scene during the attack, and one fired on the Palestinian attacker," Poleg said. An initial police investigation found that the assailant had approached the two hitchhikers with his hands in his pockets and began asking them questions in English. Seconds later, he pulled out a knife and attempted to stab one of them. One of the Israelis drew his handgun and fired on the attacker, killing him"

UK: Armed police tackle oldster on scooter: "Armed police raided an old folks' home to arrest a pensioner in a cowboy hat brandishing a plastic pistol. Eugene Hide, 75, was arrested as he raced up and down corridors on his electric mobility scooter, reports The Sun. Staff dialled 999 complaining he was using 'threatening' behaviour. They evacuated all 25 residents while the armed response unit was scrambled. Police dashed in to find Eugene waving his toy shooter in the air. He was taken away for questioning before being released without charge. The retired council worker refused to comment yesterday, but he apologised to residents for 'getting a bit excited.' Friends said he was 'agitated' because Rosenheath rest home in Stone, Staffs, is being closed down later this year. Last year he was involved in a failed High Court bid to stop the council shutting it."

"Running up and down with guns": "Bill Wade, executive council chairman of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees, told The Los Angeles Times last month that people could be discouraged from visiting certain parks, such as Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, where he served as superintendent, if they knew the Second Amendment was in force, there. 'How many of you would want to go out there if you knew that people were running up and down the Appalachian Trail with guns?' Gee, I don't know, Bill. Do you avoid police stations because the law-abiding Americans there are armed? Military bases? Why would you come to America in the first place, if you didn't like the idea of mere peasants 'running up and down with guns?'"

Wow. You think you know some people (I know Wade, he's a legend in the Search and Rescue Community and has done a huge amount of work making SAR effective) and then they go psychotic on you....

He's full of crap, of course.

What a shame.
