Memphis Police said it all started after the man went inside the BP gas station near East Shelby Drive and Hickory Hill Road to get some food. As he walked back to his Dodge Charger, an armed suspect pointed a gun at him and said, "Give me your keys and car," police said.
That was when the car owner pulled out his own firearm from his hip and fired up to six shots at the suspect, police said. The man told investigators that he believes he shot the suspect in the face and that the suspect fired as many as 25 shots at him.
The owner of the Charger then got back in his car and left, police said.
MPD said the car owner later flagged down an officer after getting into a crash. He was found with a gunshot wound to his behind and was taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries, police said.
