While being interviewed by police, Goffney told investigators she was at the crime scene in the Ford Fusion when the shooting happened and said Pritchett, 18-year-old Elijah Markell Parham and 16-year-old Malachi Debar Williams were with her at the time. Goffney told police that Parham and Williams were both armed and planned to rob an unnamed 16-year-old who was with Payton when he was shot and killed. After Payton was shot, Goffney told investigators that Parham, Williams and Pritchett all ran back to the vehicle and she drove them away from the scene.
Court records state Pritchett’s interview with police supported Goffney’s version of what took place. He told investigators that Williams had been communicating with the unnamed teen before the shooting in an attempt to set him up for an armed robbery. Pritchett also confessed he was with Williams and Parham — both armed with rifles — and knew an armed robbery would take place with the unnamed teen being the victim. Records state Pritchett told investigators that Payton shot first, and Williams and Parham returned fire, leading to Payton’s death. Pritchett also told police that he, Williams and Parham all then climbed into the backseat of the Ford Fusion, and Goffney drove them away from the scene.
