Due to Bradford’s Native American status and the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma, officers from the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse and agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI were called to assist in the investigation along with deputies from the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Ford said a Wilburton man was identified as a possible suspect was later taken into custody.
After further investigation, Ford said it was determined that “Bradford appeared inside” the camper “wearing a mask and was armed with a shotgun” and a struggle over the shotgun ended with Bradford being shot.
The suspect was later release after witness statements were collected, according to Ford.
