Detectives said Boyd was driving with a woman and physically and verbally assaulted her inside the moving vehicle.
Remien said the man then pulled a weapon on the woman.
"After Boyd threatened the victim, she acted in self-defense and shot the man inside the moving car," Remien said.
No other details about the shooting were released.
