**Christmas Day Homicide, Currently Not Ruled a Murder**
At approximately 11:45 am on Christmas morning, deputies were dispatched to Carolina Rest Home Road south of Roanoke Rapids, in reference to a domestic argument that had escalated into shots being fired with one male struck by gunfire.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found one male lying on the ground with gunshot wounds and another male who had placed his weapon on the ground and was standing by for law enforcement to arrive.
After conducting multiple interviews and processing the crime scene, it was determined the decedent began firing shots at the other individual. That individual then returned fire in self-defense, striking the decedent multiple times.
