The confrontation escalated rapidly when the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and shot the victim in the upper chest and shoulder area, according to Sheriff Del Toro. Despite his injuries, the victim fled toward his own home, but was pursued by the armed suspect.
The chase ended in a physical struggle on a nearby lawn, according to the sheriff.
"Kind of a wrestling match ensued where the gun exchanged hands," Sheriff Del Toro told reporters during a press briefing at the scene. "The suspect was then fatally shot."
