A thorough investigation was conducted with evidence collected at the scene and video footage obtained which helped investigators determine that an adult female approached another adult female sitting outside the business and who began assaulting her; this led to a physical altercation occurring. During the altercation, two additional females, one adult and one juvenile got involved and shots were fired.
In consultation with the Nash County District Attorney’s Office, a determination was made that the firearm was discharged during the altercation in an act of self-defense. As a result of the investigation, Michelle Murphy was arrested and charged with ‘Misdemeanor Assault Inflicting Serious Injury’, for she was shown as the aggressor of the incident. Charges are also being sought as a juvenile petition for ‘Misdemeanor Assault Inflicting Serious Injury’ against the female juvenile for her role in the incident.
