Police said the sequence of events started bout 10:40 p.m. Monday when a patio door and back door of a home in the 1300 block of Speight Avenue were kicked. An arrest affidavit filed in the case stated the homeowner in fear for his life fired five or six shots at the door that had been kicked open, striking the man trying to enter in his left forearm.
Witnesses reported seeing a white Dodge Charger circling the area before the incident, then after the shots were fired reported seeing a man run to the car as it drove off. Police reported all of this activity was caught on security cameras.
About forty minutes later police were called to Scott & White Hillcrest hospital on a report of a man coming in with a gunshot wound.
As officers worked the two incidents, the wounded man was identified as a suspect in the burglary. An arrest affidavit stated that a shoe impression on the door that had been kicked in matched the suspects shoe sole, with the design and pattern a match. They also reported matches from security cameras of clothing and shoes worn by the suspect .
