Deputies said the preliminary investigation indicates there was a small gathering taking place at the residence on Philpott Highway. A loud knock and a man yelling were heard at the back door. People inside the home then went to figure out what the noise was and discovered a man with a firearm.
"Those individuals then retreated into the residence, and the uninvited male attempted to gain access to the residence when multiple shots were fired. There was an exchange of gunfire between the uninvited guest and another individual inside of the home," explained HCSO. "The uninvited male was struck by gunfire and succumbed to his injuries."
