Mississippi Supreme Court exonerates shooter: "According to testimony, Boyette and Newell exchanged some harsh words. Newell claimed Boyette followed him back to his truck and as he got inside, Boyette beat on the truck, shouted at him and threatened him with what I presume was colorful language. As Newell got into the truck, Boyette shut the door on Newell's leg. Newell claimed Boyette threatened to pull him out of the truck. Newell tried to leave but said Boyette grabbed the door. Newell pushed on the door and got out and claimed Boyette said, "I'm fixing to cut you up" and reached into his pocket where he had a knife. Newell grabbed a gun from under his seat and fired one shot, killing Boyette.

CA: Home invaders shot: "The home invasion took place in a rural area near Hickman on Merriam Avenue around 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Charles Grom with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. Grom says the targets of the home invasion shot the would-be robbers. Two of the men were later found on Oakdale- Waterford Highway in Waterford. One was fatally shot and the other was taken to a hospital with several gunshot wounds. His injuries were not life-threatening and he was in stable condition, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Luke Schwartz. Sheriff's deputies used a helicopter and dogs in their search as they rounded up the three other suspects. Schwarz said detectives believe robbery was the motive at the Hickman residence but nothing was taken. He said the alleged perpetrators appeared to have ties to the Sureno gang."

Pittsburgh woman says she killed robber with his own gun: "Allegheny County district attorney's office will determine whether a 20-year-old woman was justified when she fatally shot a teenager in Munhall early Friday with a gun she says she wrestled away from the male during an armed robbery on the street. The woman, who suffered lacerations during the altercation that required hospital treatment, was released from custody after detectives interviewed her for several hours, county homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said. Killed in the incident about 12:05 a.m. was Dwain Heath Jr., 17, of Munhall. According to Mr. Schurman, the woman told detectives she had gone to a convenience store within a few blocks of her home and made a purchase. As she was walking in an alley in the rear of the 800 block of Ravine Street, Mr. Heath approached her, brandished a gun and demanded money. The woman then fought with the man, disarmed him and shot him."
