NY: Off Duty Officer Shoots, Misses, Man with Knife

When the two got to a backyard on Joan Road, Burke allegedly pulled out a knife and approached the officer. The officer then fired his service weapon but the gunfire didn't hit Burke, who ran off a second time.

Police tracked down Burke on a service road for Sunrise Highway in neighboring West Islip 3 hours later. Police allege the man still had a knife on him at the time.
