WI:Gun group warns Madison transit over weapons ban on buses

Public transit is not one of the places Wisconsin's concealed carry law explicitly restricts even permit holders from taking their guns, but in Madison that's been the rule: no guns on city buses.

Now one of the state's gun rights advocacy groups has taken aim at that policy, calling it a violation of residents' Second Amendment rights.

(snip)

The letter cites state law that prohibits political subdivisions from adopting any gun regulations more stringent than the state statute.

"Our legal team has exhaustively reviewed Wisconsin Statutes and finds no law that restricts the right of the people to possess and transport weapons on public mass transit. As such, we believe that Madison Metro Transits prohibition of arms on buses is unenforceable and violates the rights of the citizens of Wisconsin."
