According to a preliminary investigation, Armstrong had previously been involved in a disturbance at the same residence about an hour before the shooting.
Police said that officers encountered the earlier disturbance around 3:27 a.m. while responding to an unrelated call, but at that point, it was determined no crime had occurred. Armstrong was transported back to her residence away from the home in the 400 block of East Avenue.
According to the release, just before 4:56 a.m., Armstrong returned to the East Avenue home while intoxicated and forced entry while armed with a handgun.
Police said a physical altercation ensued between Armstrong and the 27-year-old that resulted in the firearm discharging and Armstrong’s injury.
