SLED said when deputies arrived, they encountered a man who had set fire to his apartment.
Investigators said the man was armed when he left the apartment, and that led to an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and a deputy.
No one was hit by the gunfire.
Authorities said the man then ran to a nearby home, where the homeowner shot him during an encounter.
The man was detained and taken to a hospital, but there is no update on his condition.
