ACSO deputies initially responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing in the 100 block of Old Quarry Road at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, according to an ACSO release. As deputies headed to the scene, people at the Old Quarry Road residence started to bring the stabbing victim, 26-year-old River Scott May of Mount Sidney, to Augusta Health.
On the way to Augusta Health, the vehicle transporting May in the 2500 block of Springhill Road met deputies, and Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad personnel arrived to assist with life-saving measures. Those efforts were unsuccessful, the release said, and May was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While at the Springhill Road location, the driver who had been transporting May told deputies he shot the person who stabbed May. Deputies responded to the original location on Old Quarry Road, where they found a man dead from an apparent single gunshot wound to the head.
