A deadly shooting happened Saturday night in Pell City, leaving one person dead and another person injured. Police Chief Clay Morris confirmed the shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. in the 800 block of 16th Street. The shooting happened during an attempted robbery of a group playing cards under a carport.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Pell City Police Department, Kailan Sanders, armed with an AK-47, attempted to rob the group. Sanders shot one man and demanded their property. An armed citizen, acting in self-defense, exchanged gunfire with Sanders, ultimately striking him. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene.
