TUPELO – A 20-year-old Tupelo man is being held with bond, charged with first-degree murder in the early Wednesday morning shooting of his stepfather.
Jermaine Morris reportedly saw his stepfather choking his mother in the kitchen and fired at least a dozen .40-caliber rounds at Cornelius Spearman, 36, as he ran out of the house. Spearman was struck by multiple bullets and was pronounced dead at the scene before dawn.
Defense attorney Drew Stuart said this is a case of self defense. His client was trying to protect his mother.
