MI:Grandson Defends 98 year old mother and home

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Buena Vista Township Police said a 48-year-old Saginaw man is being treated for gunshot wounds sustained in an early Sunday morning confrontation during a robbery attempt.

Officers were dispatched to 2600 N. Outer just after 4 a.m. for a report of a burglary attempt in-progress.

The caller identified himself as the 49-year-old grandson and caregiver of the 98-year-old homeowner and told authorities he had an armed confrontation with the man who he believed had returned for a second time after burglarizing the residence a few hours prior.

Buena Vista Police said they had taken a burglary complaint earlier that night when the elderly woman was home alone. Police said thieves forced the back door of the home and stole a laptop computer and an ATV from the garage. The computer was equipped with an active real-time software application that was being used by the grandson to monitor the woman's well being in his absence.
