The reporting party advised a homeowner encountered a suspect on their property attempting to take a 4-wheeler. During the encounter shots were fired injuring both the homeowner and suspect who then fled on foot.
Bingham County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and requested further assistance from nearby Law Enforcement agencies to establish a perimeter and search for the suspect. Officers from Shelley and Blackfoot Police responded along with Idaho State Police and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies. Shelley Fire and Ambulance personnel were also called to the scene and transported the injured homeowner to EIRMC in Idaho Falls for treatment of a gunshot wound.
A perimeter was set up around the residence and Deputies began searching for the suspect who was believed to be wounded and armed. During the search, Bingham and Bonneville County Deputies located the suspect in a field next to the residence and shots were fired by Deputies from both agencies. Deputies immediately began life saving measures, however the suspect died at the scene.
