SC: Hostage Obtains Handgun, Shoots Kidnapping Suspect

On July 30th, 2025 around 1:00AM, Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Oak Hill Road in reference to a shooting incident.
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies located one victim who reported being held hostage and physically assaulted at their residence since 10:00 PM (on July 29th) by Eric Lee Pressley.

While being held hostage, the victim was eventually able to successfully obtain a handgun and fire several rounds at Pressley. Following the altercation, Pressley fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Shortly thereafter, Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies located the stolen vehicle at the QT Gas Station in Richburg and attempted a traffic stop. Pressley fled in the stolen vehicle, prompting a vehicle pursuit. This pursuit continued into York County.

York County Sheriff’s Deputies and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continued the vehicle pursuit into York County after attempting a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. The vehicle pursuit ended in the area of the Piedmont Medical Center on Hwy 160 in Fort Mill.

Law Enforcement was able to take Pressley into custody at that time and he was transported to the hospital for injuries he sustained.

As a result of the investigation thus far, Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies will be seeking warrants on Eric Lee Pressley for the following crimes:

-Assault & Battery 1st Degree
-Grand Larceny
-Kidnapping

It is anticipated that Eric Lee Pressley will be transported to the Chester County Detention Center following the release from the hospital.
This is an active and ongoing investigation that may result in more charges in the future.

Thank you to the York County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol for their persistent and diligent efforts that led to Pressley being apprehended. #ChesterSCSheriff
