Inside the home, deputies found a female victim, 62-year-old Holly Hatcher, who was determined to be deceased, RCSO said. Holly was a resident of the home and Michael Hatcher’s wife.
Virginia State Police was added to the homicide investigation alongside RCSO. Authorities determined the offender entered the home with a large knife and stabbed Holly, which caused her fatal injuries, the release said. The offender then attacked Michael with the knife as the altercation moved outside the home and Michael shot the offender with a handgun from his vehicle, according to RCSO. The shot stopped the attack and killed the offender, the release added.
