Mayfield was shot in the lower leg, while the other man had a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers determined Mayfield went to the other man's house and opened fire. The victim returned fire in self-defense, resulting in both being injured.
Mayfield has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He has a prior conviction stemming from a 2022 arrest for domestic abuse battery by strangulation.
