According to police, the incident happened at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, when a 27-year-old woman shot a 21-year-old man after he physically assaulted her along the 3400 block of North Lee Street in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.
The man, officials said, smashed the windshield of the victim's vehicle and charged at her when she produced her legally registered handgun and fired at the suspected attacker.
Responding officers took the man to a nearby hospital where he was placed in stable condition after the shooting, police said.
